The DIY - Do it yourself headlight repair kit.
Friday, December 3, 2010 at 11:18AM
In this section I will be discussing the DIY Kits - Do it yourself headlight repair kits that are readily available everywhere from Harbor Freight Tools to Target. These repair kits generally are designed for use by hand or with a drill to improve the appearance of your yellowed and hazy lights. Sure they are inexspensive, require very little skill and make a nice improvement over they way you lights did look. But we all no this is a short lived cure, as the lenses will definitely fail again.
Starting with the most inexpensive way that I have heard of to restore your headlight lenses.....
Toothpaste......Sure it makes sense, we use it everyday to keep our teeth clean....it has pumace, baking soda so there is a very fine cleaner which helps remove only some of the failed coating. In this video the individual also follows up with a plastic polish which helps.....but ultimately these will yellow and oxidize again.
Items required -
Toothpaste
Old Socks
Plastic Polish
Here is another good one if you want to be the mad Chemist in your community. This video shows how 2 guys will experiment with several products to try and perform this service the most inexspensive way.....
Be advised that this video is humorous and graphic near the end.....
Both videos above show you clear examples of inexpesive DIY remedies for headlight lens restoration, none of which will last.
Stay tuned for brand name DIY kits.....
